Breast Cancer Digital Pathology and Image Analysis

Breast Cancer Digital Pathology and Image Analysis

Introduction of Digital Pathology and Image Analysis

Breast cancer (BC) is called "the number one killer of women's health" by the medical community, and the diagnosis of BC by analyzing histopathological images is of great significance to patients and their prognosis. The traditional quantitative analysis of pathological samples uses manual counting under a microscope. On the one hand, there are errors, and on the other hand, the cell count is limited, so the accuracy of the analysis will be reduced. To improve the deficiencies of traditional pathology methods, complex and novel imaging systems and whole slide image (WSI) scanners have been developed and adopted, enabling pathology to transition to the digital age, also known as digital pathology. Digital pathology utilizes digital technologies to capture, share, and interpret pathology information. Slides are digitized by a scanning device, and then the digital slides are analyzed in an objective manner at high speed and high resolution using trained artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to assist pathologists in their work.
