Imaging Services of Tumor Metabolic Microenvironment

Relying on the technology platform of the tumor microenvironment center, Alfa Cytology provides a full range of services for imaging the tumor metabolic microenvironment to help researchers successfully achieve their research goals.

Introduction

Metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of cancer that allows cancer cells to grow, proliferate and survive. This metabolic reprogramming is intrinsically regulated by mutations in oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, but is also extrinsically regulated by tumor microenvironmental factors (nutrient and oxygen availability, intercellular interactions, cytokines, hormones, etc.). However, only a minority of cancers are driven by mutations in metabolic genes, which can lead to the accumulation of metabolites with oncogenic properties (i.e., oncogenic metabolites). In the last decade, it has been found that dysregulated metabolism and its crosstalk with various cell types in the tumor microenvironment not only affects the maintenance of cancer cell biosynthesis and energy production, but also contributes to the rekindled interest in immune escape. Assessment of dysregulated metabolism within tumors has long been used in cancer diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment, such as 18F-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography imaging. However, the efficient delivery of precision medicine requires less invasive, less costly and faster techniques to accurately predict and monitor therapeutic response.

Our Services

Alfa Cytology investigates imaging methods to assess the spatial and temporal patterns of the tumor metabolic microenvironment. We integrate multiple imaging techniques, and our services include, but are not limited to:

  • Mass Spectrometry Imaging (MSI) Service for Tumor Metabolic Microenvironment
Alfa Cytology provides mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) services, applying mass spectrometry imaging technology. As a novel molecular imaging technique, it is able to obtain structure, content and spatial distribution information of a large number of known or unknown molecules such as endogenous metabolites and exogenous drugs directly from biological tissues/tumor pathology. Compared with other imaging methods (e.g. fluorescence imaging, radiolabeled imaging, etc.), this technique does not require chemical or radiolabeling, complex sample pre-treatment, and has the outstanding advantages of high specificity, high throughput and spatial information retention. Mass spectrometry imaging enables qualitative, quantitative and localization analysis of thousands of metabolites in biological tissues, and combined with bioinformatics analysis, it has been developed into a spatial metabolomics approach that can identify differential metabolites from biological tissues in situ and identify their biological functions.
  • Optical Metabolic Imaging Service for Tumor Immune Microenvironment
Optical metabolic imaging enables real-time visualization and measurement of metabolic interactions between cells. The technology is non-invasive and label-free, meaning it uses the innate autofluorescence of cells as a readout rather than adding other reagents that can damage cells.
  • PET / CT / MRI Imaging Service for Tumor Immune Microenvironment
  • Image Fusion Techniques, such as Combining Anatomical Images with Molecular Images
