Product Information | It is a solid-phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The GFAP ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous GFAP. The assay recognizes human GFAP. An antibody specific for GFAP has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The GFAP protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for GFAP is added to detect the captured GFAP protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm . |
Background Information | GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein), an intermediate-filament (IF) protein, is specifically expressed in cells of astroglial lineage and is widely used to mark astroglia in the brain. The elevated levels of GFAP in the serum and plasma have been reported in patients with brain injury and neural diseases like multiple sclerosis. |
